MacSween’s deep experience in hydrogen, oil and gas will provide valuable insights as Aurora Hydrogen focuses on scaling.

Aurora Hydrogen, an Edmonton-based hydrogen technology company, has announced the addition of a new member to its board of advisors, Mike MacSween, who will help the company lead the industry in producing high-efficiency, low-carbon hydrogen for hard-to-abate sectors.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Mike to Aurora Hydrogen’s advisory board,” Aurora Hydrogen CEO Andrew Gillis said. “He brings a wealth of expertise that we look forward to applying as Aurora Hydrogen continues to focus on scaling clean hydrogen production that lowers companies' energy costs and drives emissions reduction.”

MacSween, a senior advisor with Boston Consulting Group and CEO of Exergy Solutions Inc, brings over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, including 26 years at Suncor Energy, where his career spanned from process engineer to executive vice president. During his time at Suncor, he led up numerous major projects in Canada and directed business units focused on upstream upgrading, which encompassed the operation and maintenance of large hydrogen production units. Aurora will benefit from his knowledge of major hydrogen production methods, energy management, and projects execution.

“Leaning on my years at Suncor and additional experiences in the energy space, I look forward to working closely with Aurora Hydrogen’s leadership to help drive the company forward,” MacSween said. “Coming from a carbon-intensive sector, my expertise positions me to think from the customer perspective, so I can guide Aurora on how to best meet their customers’ needs.”

Aurora Hydrogen, which completed its Series A funding round in August 2022, is developing a hydrogen technology that uses existing natural gas and electricity infrastructure and proven components to efficiently produce low-carbon hydrogen fuel on site, at industrial scale.
